I would dare venture that most people are unaware of Schubert’s four-handed piano works. Too bad, because it is incredible music. Here played by Eschenbach and Frantz with great consistency of style, deep passion, and fierce interpretations. The price is pretty great, too. 4 CDs.

These CDs accompanied me to and from Boston just recently (on my iPod), and the more I listen to them the more enamored I am. These works are rich like the sonatas, yet the sound is fuller and denser with four hands involved. It’s really brilliant stuff, and I can’t recommend this CD enough.

… it deserves being on the front page. I just bought a different recording of these same pieces, and it doesn’t come close to the expression and sensitivity of Frantz and Eschenbach. These CDs are stunningly beautiful.
A wonderful bargain
