I am a Permanent Member (or Community Ambassador) of the Drupal Association.w.bloggar is a blogging client with which one can post blog entries to a remote server - in this case RobsHouse.net. Although the Drupal software that runs RobsHouse.net has supported this functionality as long as I’ve used it, I’ve never tried it out. As you can see, though, it woks! Grab yourself a copy and give it a test drive. Installing and setting the program up were easy tasks. One of the first things you are asked to do is choose your blog software from a list. All the usual suspects are there (MT, Blogger etc.), as well as Drupal. There is a 4.0 beta version available, but I am using version 3.03.0165.
Using w.bloggar removes the need to save unpublished versions of blogs-in-progress on the server as all posts can be saved locally as .post files. This is also a nice form of distributed backup. Updating a posted blog is extremely simple. Simply choose the post from a list, make your change, and click “Post & Publish”.
w.bloggar users can define custom tags and markup their entries. This is useful for making styles consistent and saving time. They are also very good for users who don’t feel comfortable ‘looking under the hood’ of their blog and editing the HTML. Unfortunately, w.bloggar seems to force users to work on this level (in the HTML). At least it offers many support features to make this work easier.
There are a number of cool features, such as the possibility to set FTP details and have images uploaded to the server for inclusion in the blog. I’ll be testing this and other such programs more thoroughly and will possibly be offering them to my blogging customers.
When everything is done, one simply clicks “Post & Publish” and the Web has been enhanced by the latest musings of the blog-user’s mind.
