Male hippos mark territory with their feces. We experienced this happening. A big hippo but came up over the edge of the tank, big hippo poop emerged, and the hippo tail acted like a super-fast windshield wiper, spraying the poop every which way. People were running for cover from the mess and stink. Bits of feces were thrown as much as 10 feet away from the source. Yuck!
